About
Hi! I guess I do truly talk in exclamation marks.
My infatuation with photography began as a child, and my career around 2021. My role behind the camera is one I take deeply seriously, in the sense that I understand it is truly vulnerable to have your image captured. We wonder: what do others see? It's true we will never see ourselves, and pictures are the closest that we ever come. Mirrors are inverted, and photos are a past self. We see ourselves in the present, but backwards, and in the past, through the eyes of another. Being that "other" that you trust to embrace you in all of your you-ness, and holding the perspective that your memory will use to resist time is my favorite honor and responsibility.
Every photo I take of another being is deeply intimate, intentionally or not. For me the intimacy lies in the sub-texture of the emotions co-occurring with my photograph. What do I feel that is implied rather than explicit? Joy, love, and thoughtfulness are among my favorites. My proudest photos are authentic to the subject and the moment in time, so it's deeper than an aesthetic.
I like to refer to my work as kin to impressionism.
One of my strongest assets is my approachable enthusiasm and ability to provoke a reaction. Feeling safe and comfortable is the first step to looking good on camera. The second is trusting the photographer. I build trust through sincerity, and I really want you to see what I see. (Your humanity is your beauty.)
